James is a Senior Innovation Lawyer at Arthur Cox, responsible for driving legal technology and AI adoption across the firm.

He brings over 13 years’ legal experience together with hands-on AI and software development expertise to design, build, and deploy technology-enabled solutions for clients and practice groups.

James works with practice groups and clients on the design, implementation, and responsible use of AI and legal technology. He identifies opportunities for technology and process improvement, builds bespoke AI-powered solutions, and supports lawyers in adopting new tools and ways of working.

Prior to his current role, James led the development of legal AI products at a legal technology company, collaborating closely with engineering teams on LLM, RAG, and agent-based solutions for law firm and in-house legal clients. This gave him practical insight into how AI tools are designed, deployed, and iteratively improved.

James has extensive experience as a financial regulatory lawyer, advising regulated entities including credit institutions, insurers, investment firms, asset managers, and fintech companies on Irish and EU financial regulation. He has also advised on the EU AI Act, including delivering training on its regulatory requirements.

James holds a Master’s degree in Computing from Dublin City University, specialising in machine learning and natural language processing. His research, conducted in collaboration with IBM Research, was published at ACL 2024, the leading international conference in the field.
