Innovation Lawyer Programme
Innovation is not a separate workstream at Arthur Cox. It is part of how we think, how we work and how we deliver for our clients. Our Innovation Lawyer Programme brings together legal expertise, technology and innovation to enhance the delivery of legal services.
Our innovation lawyers work across the firm’s technology and legal teams, supporting practice groups throughout the firm. They collaborate with engineers and colleagues to understand client needs, identify high-value opportunities and develop practical solutions. Their knowledge of legal practice allows them to assess where technology, improved processes and new ways of working can deliver meaningful benefits for our clients and our people.
Turning ideas into practical solutions
Innovation is most effective when it begins with a clear understanding of the legal and operational challenge. Our innovation lawyers work closely with lawyers, technologists and engineers to take ideas from discovery through development, testing and implementation. Their practice-led approach helps ensure that solutions are designed around real needs rather than technology for its own sake. The focus is on practical outcomes, such as streamlining legal workflows, enhancing client service and helping our people focus on work where their judgement and experience add the greatest value.

Hello, I’m Jennifer Ward, Chief Technology Officer at Arthur Cox. Across the legal industry, we’re seeing a fundamental shift in how legal services are delivered. We at Arthur Cox are seeing that as a great opportunity. We’ve built out a clear AI and innovation strategy which combines our legal expertise with technology advancements and builds on the judgement, trust, and quality that underpins our service to our clients every day. Innovation is part of the culture here at Arthur Cox and has been for decades.
So when capabilities such as generative AI and agentic AI present themselves, the natural response is to work with those capabilities to see how we can broaden our suite of services to our clients. Our AI strategy is multifaceted. Firstly, we’re building forward on our partnership with Microsoft to build out the capabilities presented in that ecosystem to become a legal frontier firm. Additionally, we’ve adopted Legora as our legal AI platform and have completed a firm-wide adoption programme earlier this year.
A key part of our strategy is the Innovation Lawyer Programme, bringing lawyers from across the firm, this team works at the intersection of legal expertise, technology, and innovation. They seek out the high-value processes and tools that can bring exceptional client engagements. What we’re also seeing is that client expectations are changing in line with technology advancements, so that allows us the opportunity to work on bespoke proprietary Arthur Cox technology which enables our clients in the most complex of matters.
As we look forward, our focus remains on embedding innovation into the very fabric of the firm. That means delivering responsible AI, enhancing our governance, scaling our initiatives, and developing the learnings that exist across the whole firm to deliver exceptional legal services. In summary, innovation isn’t a separate workstream at Arthur Cox. It is how we think, how we deliver, and how we act on behalf of our clients every day.
Supporting our AI and innovation strategy
Our Innovation Lawyer Programme is a key part of our wider AI and innovation strategy, providing a bridge between legal practice and technology. Our innovation lawyers identify potential use cases, develop and test solutions, support adoption and share successful approaches across practice groups. This creates a repeatable pathway for refining, scaling and applying effective ideas more widely.
As practising lawyers, they understand the complexities of legal matters, the importance of accuracy and confidentiality, and the standards of judgement and quality expected by our clients. Working alongside our legal engineers, AI engineers and data scientists, they help translate legal and business challenges into practical solutions, building bespoke technical solutions for complex client matters. This combination of legal insight and technical capability enables us to explore opportunities responsibly, while maintaining the trust and quality that underpin our client relationships.
Our approach
The way legal services are delivered continues to evolve, but the foundations of our client relationships remain the same: trusted advice, sound judgement, high-quality delivery and the ability to execute. Our approach is to combine these strengths with the best available technology, using AI purposefully, governing it responsibly and maintaining a clear focus on better outcomes for our clients.
