The event was organised in partnership with the Irish Environmental Protection Agency and the Political Studies Association of Ireland. It attracted a number of international leaders, policy makers and academics to discuss the consequences of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU on the policies developed to tackle climate change and to ensure sustainable, secure and affordable energy supplies.

Brian O’Gorman, Managing Partner, Arthur Cox welcomed the DCU Brexit Institute and guests to the firm’s offices. The event was then opened by a keynote speech by Enrico Letta, former Italian Prime Minister and Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs (Sciences Po).

It also featured the participation of leading academics, business leaders and policy-makers, including: Prof Charlotte Burns, University of Sheffield; Joseph Curtin, University College Cork and the IIEA; Dr Tanya Harrington, Powerscourt Group; and Dr Diarmuid Torney, Dublin City University. The panel discussion was chaired by Kevin O’Sullivan, the Irish Times.

The discussion was followed with a high-level debate between Laura Burke, Director General of the Environmental Protection Agency and Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge and Deputy Chair of the UK Committee on Climate Change.
