Hello, I’m Stephen Ranalow, Head of Corporate and M&A at Arthur Cox. We’re very proud to share that we have topped the Mergermarket league table for legal advisors in Ireland, both by deal value and deal count for 2025. We’ve also topped the league table for global transactions for an Irish law firm by deal count, and we’re also the leading Irish law firm for private equity buyout transactions in EMEA. This is possible because of the trust our clients have placed in us and due to the dedication of our team of over 100 professionals in the M&A Group.
Looking back on 2025, some of the key features were very significant activity amongst corporate clients, particularly mergers of equals and spin-off transactions, increased activity from PE sponsors, particularly at the larger end of the market in $1 billion plus transactions. The sectors where we saw very significant activity were energy, infrastructure, life sciences, and financial services. Thank you to our clients and colleagues for making this possible. We look forward to continuing to lead the Irish market into 2026 with our dedication to client service and innovation.
We are pleased to announce that our Corporate and M&A Group have topped the latest Mergermarket league table for both deal value and deal volume in Ireland for 2025, advising on Irish transactions worth $19.5 billion across 60 deals.
As well as leading the tables for Ireland, we have also topped the table for global transactions for an Irish law firm by volume, advising on 81 international deals. We are also the leading Irish law firm for private equity buyout deals in EMEA by both value and volume, advising on 10 deals with a combined transaction value of over $10.3 billion.
There were a number of key market trends that we saw in the Irish market in 2025:
- Healthcare and life sciences led the Irish market by deal value, with our team advising on the top three transactions in this sector
- Technology remained the busiest sector, with over 150 deals. We advised on the top three technology deals by value in 2025
- Deals over $1 billion surged by more than 50% year-on-year, with 7 of the 11 largest transactions in Ireland handled by our team
