Expertise

Orla is a partner in the Litigation and Dispute Resolution Group. Orla’s practice focuses on healthcare and commercial litigation.  In the healthcare area, she advises the State Claims Agency, the Mental Health Commission and the HSE on both contentious and non-contentious matters. She has represented clients at the Medical Council, the High Court/Supreme Court, in statutory and non-statutory inquiries and in relation to judicial review proceedings. She has also advised healthcare providers in relation to governance protocols. In the area of commercial litigation, she has a particular interest in shareholder disputes and professional negligence claims with experience in both the High Court and the Commercial Court.  She has also advised a number of insurance companies in relation to logistics claims.

Orla is an accredited CEDR mediator.  She also lectures on various issues in relation to healthcare. 

Experience

• Representing the State Claims Agency, in the defence of all claims against public hospitals which involve allegations regarding hospital acquired infections
• Advising and representing the State Claims Agency in respect of medical negligence claims made against hospitals
• Representing the Mental Health Commission, in relation to its day to day operations, statutory obligations and responsibilities and all contentious matters
• Advising the Mater Private on contentious and non-contentious matters with Consultants and third parties
• Advising the HSE in relation to corporate governance issues and in particular, its delegations structure
