Finance Bill 2010 - New Carbon Tax Regime, March 2010

The first draft of the Finance Bill 2010, which must be enacted by 9 April 2010, makes provision for a new carbon tax on the supply of fossil fuels. The Bill confirms the Budget announcement by the Minister for Finance of an increase in the rates of Mineral Oil Tax on petrol and auto-diesel by way of a carbon tax. In addition, the Bill proposes the application of the carbon tax to other fossil fuels from 1 May 2010.
