Chris Joyce – Finance Funds

I studied Corporate Law at NUI Galway.

The Asset Management and Investment Funds team is great and has involved me in all aspects of the group’s work. I have had the chance to draft various fund documentation which is key to establishing all kinds of investment fund structures. Chris JoyceI have also been entrusted to correspond with both clients and the Central Bank in relation to issues that arise with funds whom we represent. Attending at board meetings and taking minutes is another common task for a trainee in this group. As the only trainee in the group I am often asked to research queries that arise and the varied nature of the queries is one of the aspects of my time here that I have enjoyed the most.

One of the highlights of this rotation has been the opportunity to research the implications of the Alternative Investment Fund Managers Directive and its transposition into Irish law. This is an EU initiative to bring non UCITS funds within the scope of its regulatory supervision and to bring more transparency and stability to their operations. I have had the opportunity to work closely with my colleagues, the Irish Funds Industry Association and other law firms towards presenting an industry response to the EU proposals.
