Having interned in the Litigation department in Arthur Cox, I cannot recommend the Summer Intern Programme highly enough! From the first day, I was made feel welcome and was given the opportunity to work with everyone on the team. What really struck me was the level of responsibility I was given – I had the opportunity to make a genuine impact in ongoing cases. The extent of duties was vast: attending Court; drafting documents; preparing articles on recent developments in the law for internal use; and attending client calls. The work was challenging but very invigorating and rewarding. It also gave me an insight into how the law operates in practice and how legal professionals play an important role in shaping it.
During the internship, I was fortunate to share an office with a senior associate which was a fantastic learning experience. She involved me in all areas of her practice and always asked for my input, making me feel liked a valued member of the team. The entire Litigation team were so approachable and willing to answer any questions I had. There was also a great social dynamic and I was delighted to be there for the first week of Litigation Bake-Off!
Coming from Cork, the firm really went the extra mile to ensure I settled into life in Dublin. The Litigation team made sure that I was never short of recommendations of things to do and places to go. The interns were also treated to a varied and fun programme of social events to help us get to know each other better.
As someone who was unsure what to expect from an internship in a corporate law firm, my time in Arthur Cox gave me significant exposure to the life of a trainee solicitor, as well as that of associates and partners. The internship exceeded all my expectations.
