Reading for a degree in French and Italian inevitably led to my spending most of my undergraduate Summer vacations and two Erasmus exchanges in France and Italy. After graduating, I was given the opportunity to go to Paris to do a Masters degree in French literature and to teach as a language assistant at the Sorbonne while living as a guest student at the École Normale Supérieure. I remained in Paris for an additional year as an English language assistant at the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po) and taught English for a further year in Italy before returning to Dublin to lecture in French and Italian. During this time in Dublin I completed a Masters degree in Anglo-Irish literature in Trinity College basing my degree thesis on Seamus Heaney’s translations of an Italian poet.
Always having had an interest in translation and having spent a number of years living and working through a combination of languages, I then trained as a conference interpreter.
My work as a freelance interpreter especially during the 2004 Irish Presidency of the European Union led me to consider pursuing a career in Law and I subsequently sat the FE1 exams after attending preparatory courses in Griffith College Dublin.
Upon joining Arthur Cox in July 2007 I was assigned a seat in the commercial litigation department. I enjoyed both the quality and variety of work in which I was asked to participate, ranging from attendance at Court and client meetings to research and knowledge management.
Since returning from PPC1 in April 2008 I have completed a rotation in a corporate department where I assisted in drafting agreements and board minutes for transactions, responding to client queries and carrying out due diligence and research.
In the time I have spent in the office to date, I have greatly appreciated learning from people who excel in their field and have also enjoyed the lively social environment at Arthur Cox.
