The Trainee Development Programme at Arthur Cox is based on our complete dedication to your personal and professional training and development. It is designed to make you a unique and expert lawyer and to give you the tools you will need to create and develop for yourself a successful and sustainable career.
Each trainee's development programme is different. You are encouraged to take ownership for your own development and to work closely with the Director of the Trainee Programme to develop a training programme which best nurtures your own interests and talents.
At every stage of your training programme, you will be encouraged to push your boundaries and to get involved in work of the highest calibre in an environment designed to support your professional growth and development.
The Arthur Cox Trainee Development Programme does not leave the development of excellent lawyers to chance. Every trainee is given the tools to become an expert and excellent lawyer and a business person.
Orientation
Your training will start with an orientation which centres on the firm values. You will be introduced to the firm as a business and to the role of the support functions within the firm. You will be trained in our values and the behaviours you need to realise them daily; our culture; IT; housestyles; use of office equipment; know-how; and facilities.
Five Rotations
You will have the opportunity to work in five different practice groups and to complete at least one rotation in each of our four major practice fields: Commercial, Finance, Litigation and Property. Please read more about our trainee rotations.
Secondments
We also provide opportunities for some of our trainees to spend a rotation in our Belfast or London offices or on secondment in-house with a client.
Support and Guidance
Arthur Cox is a team-based environment and our trainees are an integral part of our legal team. Whatever your assignment, you will have constant support, advice and guidance from the Director of the Trainee Programme, the partners and solicitors that you work with. The partners you are assigned to will monitor your work and will be available to discuss your ongoing development and objectives.
Evaluation and Goal-setting
At the end of each rotation you will meet with your supervising partner to discuss your professional progress. You will also meet with the Director of the Trainee Programme to identify your development needs; discuss next rotation choices and to prepare an action plan for your next rotation.
