Ian Duffy, Associate, Technology and Innovation, has prepared an article about Brexit’s impact on personal data flows for Data Protection Ireland.
The article outlines how personal data flows between Ireland and the UK will be affected in the event of:
- a Brexit deal that aligns with the position on data and transition from the UK government’s withdrawal agreement (25th November 2018) and the political declaration for the future relationship agreed on 22nd November 2018 between the UK government and the EU (i.e. a negotiated agreement); and
- a ‘no deal’ Brexit.
It also looks at the steps that organisations may wish to take now in order to safeguard personal data transfers between Ireland and the UK, regardless of whether there is a negotiated agreement or no deal.
