Richard is a partner in the Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group and focuses on professional negligence, shareholder, financial regulation and technology disputes.  He regularly advises on matters before the Commercial Court or under case management in the High Court.  He also has extensive experience in large scale discovery processes which typically involve electronic discovery processes and associated applications.

Practice Areas

  • Successfully resisting Commercial Court summary proceedings commenced by a fund shareholder for the recovery of redemption payments allegedly due following the fund’s suspension of redemptions in the aftermath of the fraud perpetrated by Bernard Madoff
  • Representing First Active plc, part of the Royal Bank of Scotland group, in relation to proceedings brought by The Cunningham Group involving claims in excess of €150 million arising out of First Active’s appointment of a receiver to various companies within the group to include successful applications for non-suit at the end of the Plaintiffs’ evidence
  • Advising on the investigation by the Financial Regulator into foreign exchange issues at Allied Irish Banks plc
  • Acting in a professional negligence claim brought by ESG Insurance against Deloitte & Touche Ireland (and Deloitte & Touche US and Deloitte & Touche Bermuda) in the Commercial Court in which ESG Insurance was claiming a sum in excess of $60 million
  • Advising a large hotel chain in relation to mediation and injunction proceedings regarding the licensing of intellectual property
  • Acting for a major national property group in defending a Commercial Court dispute concerning an equity incentivisation scheme in which the Plaintiffs sought damages in excess of €30 million
