Pádraig has been Managing Partner of the firm since 2003. He began his practice with a Wall Street law firm before joining Arthur Cox in 1993 to run our New York office. He returned to the Dublin office in 1996 to specialise in corporate law and regulated industries. In addition to his role in managing the firm, Pádraig advises a range of public companies, private companies and State related entities on their transactional and business issues.

Pádraig was named European Managing Partner of the Year 2009 at the British Legal Awards and European Managing Partner of the Year 2009 at the Lawyer European Awards.

Practice Areas

Experience includes:

  • Advising the Department of Finance on the nationalisation of Anglo Irish Bank Corporation
  • Advising the National Pensions Reserve Fund Commission on the innovative €3.5 billion recapitalisations of each Allied Irish Banks plc and Bank of Ireland through fixed coupon preference shares with warrants
  • Advising the Department of Finance on the €4 billion recapitalisation of Anglo Irish Bank Corporation
  • Advising the National Treasury Management Agency on the establishment of the National Asset Management Agency (‘NAMA’) which is designed to purchase assets from participating banks and potentially become the largest property-related holding company in Europe
  • Assisting with the legal aspects of the design and implementation of the three major pieces of legislation relating to the banking crisis, the Covered Institutions (Financial Support) Act 2008, the Anglo Irish Bank Corporation Act 2009 and the National Asset Management Agency Bill 2009 (currently before the Irish Parliament)
