Fintan specialises in tax. He advises companies on tax planning, including the tax aspects of acquisitions, disposals, reorganisations, migrations, securitisations and financings. He also advises multinationals, hedge funds, banks and insurance companies in relation to insurance, financial and structured products. Previously Fintan worked in the tax groups in Skadden Arps and Herbert Smith.

A selection of recent deals that Fintan has advised on include:

  • Advising the majority of US listed companies on their migrations to Ireland which all involved a scheme of arrangement to insert a new Irish incorporated and resident NYSE-listed holding company including: Covidien, Ingersoll-Rand, Accenture, Cooper Industries and Willis Group
  • Advising Airtricity Holdings Limited (“Airtricity”), a leading wind energy company, in relation to its sale to Scottish and Southern Energy Plc (“SSE”) for an equity value of approximately €1.1 billion
  • Advising Reox Holdings in relation to the disposal of its Breeo Foods division
  • Advising Qualcomm Inc. on its acquisition of Xiam Technologies Limited
  • Acting for the shareholders of Noonan Services Group on its sale to an Alchemy Partners backed company
  • Advising Experian in relation to its demerger from the GUS group and its establishment in Ireland
  • Advising Treasury Holdings in relation to the first and only Irish domestic CMBS
  • Advising EBS Building Society in relation to the issue of structured Tier 1 securities
  • Advising Wachovia in relation to the establishment of its Irish bank
  • Advising Calyon as arranger of a €2.575 billion multi-manager collateralised loan obligation (CLO) transaction using a sub-SPV structure
  • Advising Morgan Stanley as lead manager and ABN AMRO, Bank of America, Credit Suisse and Deutsch Bank as managers of the Anthracite Euro CRE CDO 2006-1 which was awarded Structured Products Deal of the Year by the International Financial Law Review
