Conor has practised in the area of commercial disputes for over 20 years and has specialised in large scale litigation across a range of areas including shareholder disputes, professional negligence claims, financial services and banking disputes.  He also has considerable expertise in relation to competition and regulatory disputes encompassing both regulatory intervention, appeals, statutory appeals and judicial review.  In particular, he has advised a number of publicly quoted companies and financial institutions in relation to regulatory inquiries undertaken by the Irish Stock Exchange, the Financial Regulator and High Court appointed inspectors. 

Conor is a CEDR accredited mediator.

Practice Areas

Conor has acted as lead partner in the following:

  • Acting for Fyffes plc in its successful insider dealing case against DCC plc and others. This was the first case of its kind in Europe and was won on appeal to the Supreme Court
  • Acting for First Active plc (part of the RBS Group) in a series of linked proceedings brought by the Cunningham Group involving claims in excess of €150 million arising out of the appointment by First Active of a Receiver to the Cunningham Group.
  • Acting for telecoms operator eircom in a number of significant disputes including litigation brought by the music industry concerning illegal file-sharing in breach of copyright which was settled on the eighth day of trial; in various appeals and judicial reviews involving the Commission for Communications Regulation; in a dispute with Smart Telecom over the award of a mobile phone licence
  • Acting for DAA plc the national airport operator - in a number of disputes, in particular, ongoing litigation with Ryanair and in disputes and appeals involving Ryanair and the Commission for Aviation Regulation challenging various determinations by the Commission fixing the level of airport charges
  • Advising in two shareholder disputes before the Commercial Court in 2008 involving shareholder oppression in companies holding properties worth in excess of €200 million
  • Advising a number of parties in relation to existing and proposed litigation arising out of the Madoff fraud
  • Advising the Irish Rugby Football Union, and its joint development company with the Football Association of Ireland, in a number of disputes and legal actions connected with the building of the new stadium at Lansdowne Road for the Irish rugby and soccer teams
