Ciarán has a broadbased corporate and commercial practice concentrating on mergers and acquisitions (public and private), joint ventures and commercial agreements.

Practice Areas

He was lead partner on the following transactions:

  • Airtricity on its sale to Scottish and Southern Energy plc (€1.8 billion)
  • Reox Holdings plc on the sale of its consumer foods division and Kerry Group plc
  • Dairygold Coop on the demerger and spin-off of its property and other non-core interests into Reox Holdings plc.
  • CRH plc on its acquisition of a 50% share in a Portuguese cement business, Companhia Genal de Cal e Cimento, S.A., (€333 million).
  • ntl Group on the sale of ntl Ireland to Morgan Stanley (€325 million)
  • Ulster Bank on the sale of its fund management and fund administration divisions to Northern Trust and KBC respectively, (€120 million).
  • NTR plc on the grant back to the National Roads Authority of the West-Link concession and subsequent securitisation with Morgan Stanley (circa €500 million); Kerry Group on its acquisition of Freshways Limited (€20 million).
  • Aer Lingus on the disposal of its non-core subsidiaries, including TEAM Aer Lingus and the Spanish charter airline Futura.
  • IAWS on the spin-out of shares in IAWS Group plc to its members, (€180 million)
  • Advanced Environmental Solutions on its sale to Bord na Móna (€60 million)
  • Axa Private Equity on its acquisition of Punch Industries (circa €60 million)
  • Celtic Media Group on its acquisition of the Meath Chronicle, the Anglo-Celt, The Westmeath Examiner and The Impartial Reporter newspaper groups.
  • The MBO team in their acquisition of Caulfield Supermarket (€80 million)
  • eircom plc on the demerger and sale of its mobile phone business (Eircell) to Vodafone plc (€3.5 billion).
