Arthur Cox wins award for advancement of women in law

Arthur Cox has won the Best Firm in Ireland award at the Europe Women in Business Law Awards which recognise firms for their efforts in ensuring that women advance in the legal profession. The awards are given by the Euromoney Legal Media Group, which comprises a wide range of international legal publications.

Winners were judged on their ability to support the development of women in the legal profession and provide work/life programmes to enable women to pursue legal careers. Criteria include the ratio of female-to-male lawyers (at all levels of seniority), the retention of women associates to partner level and any relevant diversity initiatives.

Commenting on the award the Managing Partner of Arthur Cox, Brian O’Gorman, said: “We are very pleased to win this award.  The representation of women in law firms and indeed in other professional service firms is below what it should be, particularly at senior level.  We are determined to address this and have taken some steps to do so.  We are delighted to win this award but recognise that more work needs to be done.”

The firm was also shortlisted in the categories of best gender diversity initiative, best national firm mentoring programme, best national firm for work/life balance, best national firm for pro bono work and best national firm for women in business in law. Individual female practitioners were nominated for best in environment, best in litigation and rising star in litigation.
