Expertise

Kieran McGarrigle is the head of the Finance Group in Arthur Cox’s Belfast Office, Northern Ireland. Kieran practices in Finance law with a particular emphasis on banking, restructuring and financial regulatory issues. He advises both financial institutions and borrowers on domestic and cross-border financing transactions.

Kieran has advised in a wide range of deleveraging strategies by financial institutions in Northern Ireland and has significant experience in loan portfolio disposals, both secured and unsecured.

Representative experience:

  • Acting for NAMA in the sale of £4.5 billion of its Northern Irish loan portfolio to Cerbrus Capital Management.
  • Acting for Northern Ireland’s first peer-to-peer lending platform, CoFunder, in the regulatory aspects of its business in Northern Ireland.
  • Acting for a syndicate of banks in financing the acquisition of the Isaac Agnew Group by Synter Group Limited
  • Acting for a syndicate of senior lenders on the restructuring of the Quinn Group
  • Acting for the Administrators of the Presbyterian Mutual Society in negotiating a funding package of £225 million from the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Investment and HM Treasury
  • Advising a consortium of Banks on the financing aspects of Tesco’s £685 million commercial mortgage-backed bond issue
  • Acting for the administrator of the Presbyterian Mutual Society Limited and playing a key role in securing the passing of emergency legislation by the Northern Ireland Executive to allow the Presbyterian Mutual Society Limited to enter into administration
  • Acting for the administrator of Restaurant Management Services Limited in the sale of the Pizza Hut franchise in Northern Ireland
  • Acting for the administrator of Coleraine Football Club in the sale of the football club and being retained by the purchaser of the football club to advise in relation to its registration with the Irish Football Association
  • Advising the liquidator of Irish Fertiliser Industries Limited, the largest insolvency in the island of Ireland
  • Advising the liquidator in the solvent liquidation of Desmond & Sons Limited
  • Acting for Littlewoods and Home Delivery Network Limited in the purchase of business and assets from Famac Delivery Network Limited
