Elizabeth is Head of the firm’s Insurance Group and advises both domestic and international clients in the insurance sector on a wide range of non contentious insurance and reinsurance transactions and regulatory matters. Her practice includes advising clients on establishment and authorisation, M&A transactions, portfolio transfers, court sanctioned amalgamations and transfers, joint ventures, contractual matters, outsourcing, reinsurance arrangements, reorganisations and distribution arrangements.  Elizabeth has extensive experience in providing prudential and regulatory advice including corporate governance, regulatory capital, conduct of business, cross border activities, product development and regulatory enforcement.

Elizabeth is ranked as a Leading Individual for Insurance in the Legal 500: EMEA 2015 and is recommended in Who’s Who Legal under the Insurance and Reinsurance section.


In recent years, Elizabeth has been involved in the following transactions:

  • Acting for Swiss Re’s business unit Admin Re on the Irish aspects of its acquisition of  Guardian Financial Services for GBP 1.6 billion.
  • Advising the Quest Group on the acquisition of a number of Irish run-off portfolios including Icarom plc (the former Insurance Corporation of Ireland).
  • Advising RSA on a number of acquisitions including its €65 million acquisition of 123.ie and joint venture with Bestquote.ie.
  • Advising KBC Insurance in relation to its whitelabelled distribution arrangements.
  • Advising in respect of the potential acquisition of the run-off business of a large Irish Life insurer.
  • Advising Sompo Insurance on the Irish aspects of its acquisition of the Canopius Group.
  • Advising Georgia Pacific on the transfer of its captive insurer’s liability business to AIG.
  • Advising on a range of reinsurance/retrocession transactions.
  • Acting for a large international life insurer in respect of its acquisition of a German life assurance business.
  • Acting for the Irish Government on the sale of the majority of its stake in Bank of Ireland.
